En attendant six heures, la noce se promena en voiture tout le long des boulevards; puis elle se rendit à la gargote où une table de sept couverts était dressée dans un cabinet peint en jaune, qui puait la poussière et le vin.

Until six in the evening, the wedding party drove along the boulevards, and then repaired to the cheap eating-house where a table was spread with seven covers in a small private room painted yellow, and reeking of dust and wine.

Le Village aussi de son côté s’est organisé pour la fête : jeux pour les enfants, enveloppes surprises, vente-expo des frippes (fripperies) pour que les gens, sans tout recevoir gratuitement, profitent d’achats à très bas prix, et la «gargote».

The Village had also prepared the celebration: games for the children, surprise envelopes, expo-sale of second-hand clothes and a small restaurant so that the people would take advantage of these bargains without receiving everything for free.
