En 1974, le canton est divisé en deux parties. L'est et le nord, dont notamment les villages de Brougham, Claremont, Green River, Greenwood et Whitevale, deviennent la ville de Pickering; le reste devient la ville d'AJAX.

In 1974 the township was divided with the eastern and northern parts, including the villages of Brougham, Claremont, Green River, Greenwood and Whitevale, becoming the town of Pickering; the remainder became the town of AJAX.
